Pre-Employment Testing Requirement
This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. Please read the job description in its entirety for additional information on accessing the assessment. The assessment should be completed by Sunday, October 2, 2022.
Job Role Summary
A Machinist is responsible for the repair of rotating equipment at the Baytown Chemical Plant and Refinery
Plant equipment includes: compressors, gas power engines, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, steam turbines, motors, fans, blowers, and hydraulic pumps
Other tasks include the shop operations of a drill press, hydraulic lift, forklift, overhead cranes, engine lathes, and milling machines, as well as field machinery repairs
Job Location: ExxonMobil Baytown Complex -- Baytown, Texas -- Texas Gulf Coast
This position DOES NOT include relocation benefits or travel expense reimbursement associated with the pre-employment process
Primary Job Functions
Troubleshoot and repair all types of industry mechanical equipment
Read and interpret repair manuals and drawings for pumps and compressors
Perform maintenance on all types of pumps, motors, fans, steam turbines, and positive displacement pumps
Perform maintenance on all types of Compressors and Gas Turbines
Operate shop machinery (e.g., Lathe, Drill presses)
Applies Complex policies and procedures
Commitment for health and safety of self, others and the surrounding communities and for the protection of the environment
Qualified in the Machinist craft with knowledge of how other crafts affect the Machinist Craft and the overall job
Ability to gain working knowledge of centrifugal pump design characteristics and repairs procedures
Ability to perform close tolerance mechanical/machine work
Ability to mount and dismount forklifts and truck beds
Demonstrated the ability to effectively develop, communicate and implement plans
Effective in oral and written communications, including effective meeting skills
Able to work with others in a team environment, including working toward team goals
Able and willing to work both indoor shops and in field outdoor settings
Ability to qualify for a TWIC card
Able to sustain qualifications through on-site training
Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience or technical training
Knowledge of reliability and maintenance systems and their purpose
Familiarity with the software tools to perform operations and tasks required by the job
Summary of Machinist Apprentice Program
ExxonMobil has an apprenticeship agreement with the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, U.S. Department of Labor, between the Company and the person employed as a Machinist apprentice. The term of apprenticeship will be for three years. Upon satisfactory completion of the requirements of the program, each apprentice is presented with a Certificate of Completion.
The Machinist Apprentice program includes minimum or 550 hours of formal instruction and skills laboratory instruction. The class and lab program includes programmed instruction, lectures, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, slide-tape presentations, video tape recordings, workbook exercises, hands-on practice exercises, written tests, and performance tests. The skills laboratory is a supervised, hands-on activity within which the apprentice actually participates in applying and/or practicing the facts, principles, theory, and safety aspects related to the particular subject or skill being studied.
The apprentices are given field and/or shop work assignments that permit them to develop proficiency and self-confidence in applying the theory and principles and safety aspect of the trade in order to install and maintain machinery type equipment satisfactorily at the Baytown facility.
Pre-Employment Testing Guidance
This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. After applying you will receive a pop up giving you access to the assessment. You may take the assessment at that time or utilize the instructions below to access the assessment at a time convenient for you. Note that the assessment must be completed by the deadline in order for you to be considered for the O&M position for which you have applied.
The O&M test has been revised. Effective December 1, 2021 ALL candidates must complete the revised assessment. Even if you have tested within the last 365 days (passed or failed), if you tested before December 1, 2021, you must complete the revised assessment to be considered for this O&M opportunity. Failure to complete the assessment by the deadline will result in your disqualification from consideration for this position. The assessment is the same for all O&M requisitions. If you have completed the assessment after December 1, 2021, your assessment results will be mapped to this requisition when you try to access the test. Test passed candidates will be screened by the hiring team and a subset invited for interview. Note that a satisfactory result on the assessment does not guarantee an interview.
