Job Role Summary
The Utilities Senior Manufacturing Technical Engineer (Utilities SMTE), as part of the Baytown Olefins Plant Operations Support Department, has the overall responsibility to support ongoing operations of all utilities systems for a given business unit. The Utilities SMTE is located in Baytown, TX and primarily focuses on non-routine and medium to long range objectives including but not limited to the following: troubleshooting complex unit problems, leading improvement initiatives, and providing technical reviews of process safety studies. The Utilities SMTE also plays a key role in training and mentoring Junior Engineers.
Job Role Responsibilities
Participates on the local Unit Operations Team: Proactively identifies issues prior to operations impact
Leads troubleshooting efforts for complex unit problems and organize resolution of technical issues
Leads and/or participates in incident investigation teams
Interfaces with external organizations (Engineering, Technology)
Initiates, supports and champions technically advanced progress / solutions / developments in the process area
Maintain key interfaces (e.g. EMCC networks, Research Institutes and Academia, key vendors and suppliers, etc.)
Provides technical reviews of special unit ops / events, unit operating changes / projects, process operating envelopes, equipment strategies, etc.
Identifies unit improvement ideas to meet site initiatives (energy, reliability, costs, etc)
Lead the development and implementation of larger improvement projects to support site initiatives
Provides technical review of process safety studies for the local site such as HAZOPs, SRRs, LOPAs, etc.
Provides consulting on process safety for the unit
Shares safety learnings
Provides training and mentorship to other engineers
Develop expertise for long-term continuity for the EMCC business
Supports Network and associated sites
Develops / expands technology via partnerships and developmental projects with key equipment suppliers, raw material suppliers, Technology, Core Engr, et al
B.S. (or higher) degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent, required
5+ years of related industry experience
Demonstrated design experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Capable of working independently and achieving high standards Capable of working with / leading teams and achieving high standards
Mentor / Role Model for setting work standards and business ethics
Leadership skills to influence local operations team (key member or process and technology network)
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities (KSA’s)
Demonstrated experience in the Petroleum Refining and Chemical Industry or with an Engineering contractor serving these industries is a plus
Experience in offsites systems (e.g. flare systems, storage facilities, shipping, logistics, docks, pipeline) is a plus
Engineering support of Utilities operations in a plant environment is a plus
