ExxonMobil Petroleum Measurement Advisor in Houston, Texas
Job Role Summary
Key member of Petroleum Measurement Center of Expertise providing technical leadership in the Petroleum Measurement discipline across ExxonMobil upstream, downstream, midstream and chemicals global business lines. Provides key measurement-related technical, execution, and operational support for ExxonMobil projects and assets worldwide. Facilitates ExxonMobil organizational effectiveness by fostering a collaborative network of measurement expertise around the world to leverage corporate knowledge and drive continuous improvement. Maintains collaborative and influential roles and relationships with external parties such as industry committees, manufacturers and suppliers in the Petroleum Measurement arena.
Job Role Responsibilities
Apply understanding of Company Measurement and Industry Standards to the cost effective delivery of general petroleum measurement services to the supported business unit
Support measurement equipment reliability and accuracy through collection and analysis of key performance indicators
Identify bad actors and assist the maintenance/operations organizations in developing and implement plans for resolution
Support overall Company measurement program governance and compliance stewardship for the assigned business unit
Participate and/ or lead measurement-related project scopes to meet business needs and ensure efficient use of capital on projects varying from multi-billion dollar full field developments to brownfield metering modifications
Coordinate development and application of Measurement Design Philosophies for oil or gas facilities
Support appropriate equipment selection, specification, and vendor selection for procurement of measurement related packages and systems
Work collaboratively with vendors and suppliers within established ExxonMobil requirements to ensure appropriate design, manufacture, testing and delivery of measurement systems
Support successful installation, commissioning and operation of measurement systems
Work closely with field-based measurement advisors and members of the measurement community of practice to support and ensure alignment of measurement practices and operational measurement goals
Support review of Upstream Production Handling Agreements, assist in contract and commercial negotiations for custody transfer measurement and allocation agreements of pipeline tie-ins for Midstream/Downstream
Identify and evaluate new technologies to improve measurement across the ExxonMobil upstream, midstream, downstream and chemical organizations globally
Owner and/or Subject Matter Expert of ExxonMobil measurement-related Global Practices and Design Standards
Participate in measurement-related industry committees to assert ExxonMobil’s position for standards under development or revision which may include leadership roles (API Committee on Petroleum Measurement)
Support internal audits as subject matter expert
Data gathering and analysis to generate monthly Oil Loss or Gain reports for manufacturing facilities, Pipelines and Production Units
Assist operations field based measurement personnel and field engineering in troubleshooting issues in upstream, midstream and downstream measurement systems
Assist, facilitate and lead loss investigations such as manufacturing plant oil loss, pipeline and terminal gain / loss, production allocation loss, and transportation loss (marine, truck, rail) and implement plans for resolution of problems
Mentor / train new hires and less experienced team members in the area of measurement. as needed
Expected Level of Proficiency
Bachelors of Science in an engineering discipline, preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical
Minimum of 10 years of overall experience in oil and gas, petrochemical or refining and 5 years’ experience in hydrocarbon measurement/metering applications
Strong interest in the long term advancement of Petroleum Measurement capabilities within ExxonMobil
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Working knowledge of and experience in the application of hydrocarbon and petroleum measurement practices, regulatory and industry standards (e.g., API MPMS, ASTM, AGA, GPA)
Knowledge of custody transfer gas/liquid hydrocarbon flow measurement per industry standard
Knowledge of oil measurement gauging, and oil and gas sampling (manual and automatic) for tanks, marine vessels, and railcars
Knowledge of production and well rate flow measurement per industry standard, including MPFM
Knowledge of manufacturing plant oil loss, pipeline and terminal gain/loss, production allocation loss and transportation loss (marine, truck, rail) investigation and resolution
Ability to learn, understand, implement and improve ExxonMobil Measurement Practices
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
Demonstrated sound business judgment and ability to incorporate the "big picture" into strategy development
Ability to think strategically and develop creative fit for purpose solutions to resolve operational problems
Demonstrated ability to influence and promote change to achieve desired results with no direct authority
Experience as formal or informal leader and mentor
Strong facilitation skills for use in cross-functional efforts
Excellent analytic and troubleshooting abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, etc
Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially in the context of technical and business communications
Flexibility for international travel to support business needs
