ExxonMobil is seeking qualified and experienced candidates to advance and execute Federal and State power regulatory and policy activities for ExxonMobil in the United States. This will include managing regulatory and policy activities for ExxonMobil’s existing power businesses and assets as well as being a key contributor to the teams’ leading strategic initiatives to realize ExxonMobil’s net zero ambitions and to develop low carbon solutions opportunities. The successful candidate will be a key enabler to unlocking the full value of ExxonMobil’s power portfolio and positioning ExxonMobil to succeed in a dynamic and exciting business environment for the power industry.

We are looking for candidates who can combine their industry leading experience, expertise, and relationships to work with regulators, policymakers, trade associations, customers and suppliers to manage power regulatory and policy matters across the power value chain. You will have the opportunity to influence and establish regulatory and policy strategies, plans and tactics to support existing and new businesses. Your teammates will be energy industry professionals across upstream, downstream, chemicals and low carbon solutions business units. This will be a high visibility role, internally and externally, involving engagement with senior management and other ExxonMobil stakeholders.

What role would you play within our team.

If successful, you will be an integral part of the Power & Regulatory team, designing, developing and executing effective regulatory and policy strategies and plans to support ExxonMobil’s current and future power businesses and assets in the United States.

The key deliverables include:

  • Developing and executing regulatory and policy advocacy plans tailored to current and future power industry challenges and opportunities, focused on ensuring reliable, cost effective electricity, while capturing opportunities to meaningfully and competitively reduce GHG emissions

  • Contributing to teams shaping the strategic direction taken by ExxonMobil from a electricity policy and regulatory perspective in pursuit of strategic initiatives, such as Permian Net Zero and Houston Hydrogen Hub

  • Strategically and nimbly identifying and assessing new and amended laws, rules, regulations and policies effecting electricity markets and services and assessing their impact to ExxonMobil’s business

  • Representing ExxonMobil at power related industry associations

  • Providing regulatory and policy analysis and support to develop, evaluate and capture carbon neutral power supply opportunities, such as renewable PPAs and renewables based electricity tariffs

  • Working in partnership with your government affairs and environmental regulatory peers to develop policy positions and advocacy plans to key external stakeholders and regulators.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with power market participants including regulators, utilities, T&D providers, RTOs, ISOs, generators, and other key stakeholders

  • Serving as internal power policy, regulatory and market consultant for upstream, downstream, chemical, and low carbon solutions business units

Candidates should have a track record of maximizing value for their businesses, delivering first tier business results, and demonstrating behaviors that are aligned with ExxonMobil’s values and culture.

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject (or extensive industry experience)

  • Proven experience in a regulatory, legal or commercial environment managing regulatory and policy issues for businesses in competitive and regulated U.S. power markets

  • Track record of developing and managing relationships in industry and with policy-makers / regulators at a federal and state level

  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations, rate making practices, market trends and opportunities / challenges

  • Experience in commodity markets, commercial design, contract development and negotiating and influencing

  • Strong communication skills, with ability to translate complex regulatory issues into understandable terms, for a range of audiences

  • Sound project management and change management skills, with excellent attention to detail and time management abilities

  • Track record of creating and influencing a cross-functional network and the ability to leverage that network to positively impact decision-making and external regulations and policies

  • Experience with natural gas markets and strong knowledge of how the natural gas markets interact with the power sector

  • Knowledge of federal and state greenhouse gas reduction policies and debates
