ExxonMobil Regulatory Compliance Advisor in Joliet, Illinois
Job Role Summary
The Regulatory Compliance Advisor will work within the SSH&E Division in Joliet, IL. The Regulatory Compliance Advisor supports the site with analysis of OSHA regulations, applicability determinations, maintaining existing regulatory compliance systems. The Regulatory Compliance Advisor will review physical and operational changes, internal auditing findings, and regulation requirements and develop required plans. Responsible for driving SSHE (Safety, Security, Health and Environmental) Functional Excellence by communicating values, displaying behaviors, and reinforcing standards consistent with OIMS (Operation Integrity Management System) and LPS (Loss Prevention Systems). The position will keep up-to-date with regulations and support ExxonMobil Advocacy staff to help drive reasonable rulemaking and interpretations.
Job Role Responsibilities
Provide compliance support to include analysis of OSHA regulations and applicability determinations
Review physical and operational changes using systematic methods or Best Practices to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations
Ability to research, interpret, and apply OSHA, NFPA, NEC, API, MMS, USCG, ASME, etc. regulations or recommended practices
Evaluate, manage, and interpret data, make recommendations, and prepare written and verbal reports as needed
Develop plans to ensure compliance with new or revised regulations
Develop improved systems to drive both compliance and efficiencies
Support ExxonMobil Advocacy staff on regulatory issues to help drive reasonable rulemaking and regulatory interpretations
Act as a liaison between Government agencies by participating in agency inspections and providing information requested
Performs periodic field walks, informal audits, and field verifications to validate current performance of the site
Participate in internal and external regulatory assessments
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety Science, Fire Protection Engineering, Safety or Occupational Management, or Engineering Technical Degree with a Master’s in Safety or equivalent work experience
Proven ability to take initiative, manage / prioritize deadlines and achieve results
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance strategies
Significant prior experience in safety regulatory Permitting and Compliance
Strong technical written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with Agency personnel
Must be able to work both independently, and as part of a team member, with people of differing backgrounds and experience levels
Intermediate level desktop computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
3+ years of experience working with OSHA regulations in Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry
Current Paramedic license
Prior Refinery operational experience
Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new computer applications
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting, and personal drive and initiative to achieve results
Demonstrated leadership skills
Communicating technical information to non-technical audiences
Ability to work within a cross-functional group
