ExxonMobil XTO Lead I&E Technician (Williston, ND) in Williston, North Dakota


A Lead I&E Technician will have the skills and knowledge required to install, troubleshoot and maintain plant/field instrumentation and equipment. This includes but not limited to transmitters, valves, switches, sensors, pumps, motors, VFDs, switchgear, lighting, transformers, etc. This is an extremely “hands-on” position requiring outdoor field work that also requires being part of a rotation with others to support the field on an after-hours, on-call basis. The individual must be able to lead a team of technicians during shutdowns and commissioning efforts and able to train others on the skills needed to work as I&E technician.



  • Thorough understanding of instrumentation, controls, control systems and electrical equipment

  • Read and decipher electrical and controls drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, and complex user/maintenance manuals

  • Use PLC as a troubleshooting tool and make online code changes

  • Comprehend the principals of flow, level, temperature and pressure measurement

  • Install controls and low voltage electrical equipment, including wiring and pneumatic tubing

  • Configure, calibrate and maintain field instrumentation

  • Display good troubleshooting skills

  • Solve technical issues in a timely manner

  • Displays good judgment on when to solicit help

  • Work well in a team environment and with groups within organization and is an ambassador for the I&E group

  • Display good communication skills

  • Clearly communicate work efforts and actions (timely and appropriately)

  • Train others on skill sets required of position

  • Lead a team of technical members

  • Direct activities of I&E contractors and vendors.

  • Direct, plan and conduct assignments of a complex nature serving in a lead role


  • Minimum 2 year technical associates degree and 5 years relevant work experience, or

  • 7 years relevant work experience

  • Dependable, trusted and respected by others

  • Collaborative; work well with team members and others

  • Good communication skills
